Jamaica- drennaLUNA is the Jamaican fashion house that’s making its debut at the prestigious London Fashion Week 2012, as part of the showcase for Caribbean Collections over the imminent weekend. Amidst the anticipation, designer Arlene Martin has revealed the inspiration behind the pieces she will boast at the show. The Collection 1975, as it is dubbed, is a breath of nostalgia of the fun, funk and fashion frenzy that was the 1970s. When the fabrics of retro and contemporary are woven, the result can only be fierce! The London Collection is only a preview of the 1975 drennaLUNA collection, and though the inspiration is the 1970’s, Arlene focused on the middle of the decades with colour themes such as earth tones and natural hues-the main being brown- which were most popular during the period. There are also hints of white. Designs comprise deep necklines, form-fitting bustlines and silhouettes that skim the hips then flare to the ankle. Arlene attests that it was hard not to maintain deep cuts to the back which is easily a recognisable drennaLUNA design element. And as for a tease, she says it was hard to resist including a trend of ultra-sexy swimwear. Also, Jamaica’s strong cultural consciousness, in this 50th year, inspires the accessories that are authentic Jamaican craft. With such an impressive collection drennaLUNA is poised to represent the best of Jamaican fashion and further assert the vast talent and creativity of our local fashion industry. Subsequent to the Caribbean Collection showing, designer Arlene Martin will attend a dinner hosted by Grace Jones, where Collection 1975 will be on a display of grandeur to specially invited buyers and media. Jamaicans and Caribbean folks at home and across the world are excited and will be kept abreast of drennaLUNA’s Collection 1975 in London by logging on to www.drennaluna.com; following the line on Twitter: @drennaLUNA or by joining the group page on Facebook: drennaLUNA. |
