Designing a nursery can be exciting but at the same time overwhelming experience especially if you’re a first time mum. Before you get too excited by choosing the colour scheme and furnishings, here are a number of things you need to consider.

Budget

Have a budget in mind while setting up the nursery room. Shop around in different stores to find the things you need and you don’t have to buy matching nursery furniture sets as they tend to be expensive unless they’re on sale. If you’re on a very tight budget you can source second hand furniture as long as you buy new mattresses for the cot/Moses basket.

Space

Space is a big consideration when it comes to designing a nursery, bearing in mind that for the first six months your newborn baby will be sleeping at night in the same room as you. You can use the nursery for daytime snoozes & storage. Avoid buying bulk furniture as you want your child to have enough space to play as well as sleep in the future.

Durability

How long you want the furniture to last should be the next question that you need to ask yourself. It’s best to buy furniture that can grow with your child such as a cot that converts into a toddler bed or a changing unit that can be used as chest drawers as this will save you money.
