Eating chicory salad for lunch could stop you from getting dementia, scientists claim. Chicory also known as endive is a forced crop that is grown in complete darkness. It’s usually characterized by a cigar like shape of about 12cm long, washed-out white, yellow-tipped leaves and the crisp leaves have a slightly bitter taste.

The vegetable have a component that helps to reduce memory loss and the chicoric acid may help prevent formation of toxic clumps, known as amyloid plaques in the brain. Scientists believe the substance which is also found in dandelion & lettuce could be used in future to prevent the build-up of clumps.

The study was carried out by the Chinese researchers on three groups of mice. Some rodents were given lipopolysaccharide (LPS), while others received chloric acid and a control group was also assessed. The researchers found out that the rodents that were given lipopolysaccharide (LPS) took a longer time to find a specified platform compared to the control group. Meanwhile the rodents that were given chicoric acid supplements were quicker to perform the task.
